Senior Vice President Commercial Lending
John Hicks, our new Senior Vice President of Commercial Lending, enjoys using his creativity to find innovative solutions for small business clients.
“I like the complexity of transactions and being able to help someone get from point A to point B to secure financing and meet all of their needs,” Hicks said. “It’s more art than science and something I was really drawn to.”
Hicks has worked in sales and marketing in the financial services industry for 17 years. He got his start as a bank teller, and from there moved into consumer lending and small business lending. He finds it rewarding to help clients find the right business opportunities, and then secure the financing to support their endeavors.
“I have an entrepreneurial spirit, so that’s another reason I was drawn to the small business side of things,” he said. Hicks’ passion for small business lending led him to 21st Century Bank. “They’re really driven to help small businesses grow.”
He envisions himself as a partner to his clients, with a focus on listening, communication and managing clear expectations.
When he’s not meeting with customers or seeking out new clients, Hicks enjoys performing with local bands and giving back to the community. He volunteers with Free Bikes 4 Kidz and participates in the MS 150 Bike Ride. He is an active volunteer with the Minnesota Consortium of Community Developers as a member of the lending committee for small businesses.
Hicks graduated from McNally Smith College with a degree in Music Performance and Concordia University in St. Paul with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Marketing.
